FAQ About The BMA's
What Are The Black Music Awards?

The inception of honoring those who have given so much music to this nation's history happened eight years ago. Rick Warren, a well known journalist with over 33 years of serving the community as a writer, activist, volunteer, business owner and event planner, discovered that African Americans had virtually created every form of music known in America today. However, many of these great pioneers were going unrecognized, and many of those on the horizon were not getting the opportunities needed to reach their goals. The Black Music Association of America was founded by Mr. Warren and is comprised of music media professionals, musicians, singers, composers, radio personalities, business leaders, community leaders and members of the clergy. Each year in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Sacramento and Chicago, the BMA's are presented to artists in these areas who have been nominated for an award. The BMA's also honors our "Living Legends and Hall Of Fame candidates from within these areas. The compilation of all this greatness will reside in the Los Angeles' based Black Music Hall Of Fame & Museum.

How Do The BMA's Benefit The Community?

Over the past three years we have given away nearly $200,000 in new music equipment to resurrect music classes in schools throughout California. We have hosted workshops and seminars with young people so they learn from the greatest musicians and entertainers what it takes to succeed. We have created a financial literacy preparation academy to assure that young people have the acumen to control their future. Our programs have opened the doors of opportunity for more than 5,000 young people who want a career in the music industry and we have created new chapters in the history books by recognizing the contributions of those who make so much possible for others.
How Does This Benefit My Business Or Organization
The BMA's afford unique opportunities for corporations and companies to establish or, to continue to build their brand among the largest consumer group in the nation. The entertainment industry is a multi-trillion dollar business that is generated solely by consumerism. Product placement, signage, advertisement, community outreach and strategic marketing with the BMA's allow any business or organization unprecedented opportunities to gain new business, maintain brand loyalty and develop lasting relationships at the grass-roots level.

Here Are Some Of Our Programs…“Sounds Of Soul” Youth Outreach Program
Through this program many artists honored by the LABMA will give young future artists an opportunity to learn how to master their talent. We organize school visits from professional entertainers to discuss the industry, share lessons in instrumentation, vocal instruction and a vast amount of experience with young people. The program will become instituted in Southern California K-12 schools.
“Tools & Talent” Program
The LABMA will pursue an important effort to assure that young people who attend schools or community centers who do not have a music program, and enough instruments to operate an effective educational forum are placed in a position to do so. We will assist community programs and schools with the acquisition of musical equipment and provide technical expertise to help young people gain the exposure to the “tools and talent” necessary for their success.
